| Dark Knight Zachary Zulkowski 13:07:06 |
| | Dark Knight was really good, but it was more of a crime thriller, than a super hero movie. My only regret is that the newer movies couldn't use the stylization from the older Burton movies. I did not like the design of the Joker at all, and the Jack Nickolson one looked a lot better. There was a hint of sylization of Gotham City in Batman Begins, but that was total gone in the second movie when the filmed it in Chicago.

| SCION HERO - Long Road to Heaven - HELP!!! Skyblind 06:38:52 |
| | I'm just about to run the next to final session of the long road to heaven from Scion Hero - and I just now realized there are no stats for Canopus (the giant snake titan) in the book
Now normally, I would just make up my own stats with d20 - but I'm very new to White Wolf games and Scion is the only white wolf game I've played - and I KNOW whatever I try to do on my own will either be
a) too weak and need me to cheat to make it fun b) too strong and need me to cheat to not have a TPK
If anyone could help with some advice on what would be a good challenge - soon - it would be a REALLY big help!!!

| music for epic adventure campaign Susan Miller 15:03:45 |
| | I'm trying to get some discussion started, as well as getting some good ideas.
I'm going to be running a long-term treasurehunting adventure in 2nd Edition Mage the Ascension. Some sources of inspiration - Indiana Jones, Drake's Fortune, the Librarian, Tomb Raider. Basically, solving puzzles, collecting priceless artifacts, and martial encounters with thugs, Ninjas, and Somali pirates.
Any suggestions as to music. Key groups include the above-mentioned pirates ("bad guys"), an Illuminati-like inner circle of powerful Arcanum movers and shakers ("good guys"), and lots of underwater and ship travel (cobbled from Blood-Dimmed Tides).
I'm looking for musical suggestions to help set the tone of assorted sessions...

| Primetime Adventures: Different page counts Ben Finney 06:13:30 |
| | Howdy all,
Primetime Adventures is sold (though currently out of print) at Indie Press Revolution, in print and PDF forms.
The PDF product page <URL:http://www.indiepressrevolution.com/xcart/product.php?productid=16594> says it's 8.5in 11in, 48 pages.
The print product page <URL:http://www.indiepressrevolution.com/xcart/product.php?productid=16280> says it's 5 in 8 in, 112 pages.
Which one is right? If both are right, is there any substantive difference in the content (as opposed to format) between the products? Would I be missing something from one if I buy only the other?

| Authors and myth parallels Steven Jones 02:13:29 |
| | In the commentary on the Spider-man dvd, one of the producers mentions that Stan Lee had visited the set, and she had given him a tour of it. She said that it was quite odd, showing the creator of Spider-man around the world of Spider-man. It got me thinking that this set was something like a man-made myth parallel, and that in IW, it would make sense to do the exact opposite. If a myth parallel is found based on a work by a still-living author, the Patrol would benefit a great deal from having the author show them around. Who better to understand a world than its creator?

Wouldn't it be cool if there were lots and lots of 3rd party books that described many different settings, but used GURPS rules? I don't see what difference it makes whether they're third-party or not. You have all of the third edition books at your disposal.
Sure, there was a lot of drek, but a lot of good stuff that came out too. There was (and is) a great deal more drek than good stuff.
And it certainly moved D&D and d20 back into the dominant position in the FRP market- and mind-space. D&D and d20 never *left* the dominant position.

| Tactical combat vs aerial foes Bent C Dalager 01:04:25 |
| | On a hex-based tactical combat map you can normally be attacked by up to 6 enemies with reach 1.
If these enemies have a high degree of flying/hovering capability so that they can stay in hexes above you and attack from there, how many additional reach 1 attackers can fit into this 3D battlespace? Just one from the hex immediately above, or also one in each of the 6 periphery hexes above you? That is, do you end up with 7 guys attacking you or 13?
The Attack from Above rules on B402 don't seem to say much about this, nor do the Flying Combat rules on B398.

| Spell-Archery Bent C Dalager 01:36:00 |
| | In Dungeon Fantasy 3 The Next Level, p.41 starts by saying this about Spell-Archery: "This spell imbues an arrow or a sling stone with any spell that could be cast by touch."
Now, "could be cast by touch" seems a little vague. Would this cover missile spells? Those are cast on the caster's own hand, which could be construed as being "cast by touch". If so, then using Bow/Sling skill with Spell-Archery would be an alternative to using Innate Attack (Projectile) skill to hit.

| Enhanced Tracking and Extra Attack Bent C Dalager 00:29:22 |
| | Powers p.49 says the following about Enhanced Tracking (Multiple Lock-Ons):
"You can track multiple targets even if you have only one weapon, and gain the benefit of your Aim or Evaluate maneuver if you attack /any/ of them."
Is the basic benefit of this for an archer that you can delay your choice of target until the moment when you shoot? That is, you track, say, 3 separate targets for 3 seconds, two of them go down from other causes in the meantime and you shoot at the one still standing with full Aim bonus. Without Enhanced Tracking you may have chosen the wrong target to spend time aiming at.
(Also, if you can Aim at two different targets at the same time then this implies that you can aim at a spot different from the one you are actually pointing your weapon towards. This seems to be a perfect excuse to use Ranged Feints (MA121).)
Would it be reasonable to allow a high-fantasy archer to buy this in conjunction with Extra Attack (Multi-Strike) so that he could notch (say) two arrows at the same time (fast-drawing them is a separate discussion), aim at two targets for 3 seconds then attack them both with his two arrows, at full Aim bonus?

| Crime / Mystery one-shot adventure MeaningWhat 16:12:16 |
| | Hi, i think i want to give my board games group a taste of roleplaying. However they may dislike a fantasy setting considering it childish and get a false impression of the game.
i have never run a contemporary crime / mystery adventure and i am not sure that i have that much time for preparation. I would prefer a ready to use module.
Can anyone point me in the right direction where i can find it?
PS: i really want a module, i know that gurps mysteries, cops, swat, ... exist.

just curious: who has a (maybe not so regular) group?
Unfortunately i am out of a group. I used to be GM most of the time. But now i am out of time, out of players (moved to a new place) and so out of roleplaying. At least board games are played regularly. Settlers of Catan it is for me. And KODT the only fix of roleplaying i get right now..
what about you?

| Skeleton glass chins Bent C Dalager 12:46:07 |
| | B420 says about knockdown and stun:
"Whenever you suffer a major wound, and whenever you are struck in the head (skull, face, or eye) or vitals for enough injury to cause a shock penalty (see Shock, p. 419), you must make an immediate HT roll to avoid knockdown and stunning.
"Modifiers: -5 for a major wound to the face or vitals (or to the groin, on a humanoid male); (...)"
Fantasy p.133 describes Skeletal Undead with, among other things, High Pain Threshold; Immunity to Metabolic Hazards; Injury Tolerance (No Blood, No Brain, No Eyes, No Vitals, Unliving); Fragile (Brittle); Vulnerability (Crushing x2)
Injury Tolerance (No Brain) says "a blow to the skull or eye is treated no differently than a blow to the face" (B61)
and Injury Tolerance (No Vitals) says "Treat hits to the "vitals" or "groin" as torso hits." (B61)
Injury Tolerance (Unliving) only reduces wounding modifier for impale and piercing (B380).
I cannot find any traits on skeletons that say to treat face hits as anything other than regular face hits, meaning that skeletons get -5 to resist knockdown/stun from a major wound to the face and must roll for knockdown whenever they take any damage to the face.
Am I missing something or are they meant to have glass chins (HPT notwithstanding)?
Would Immunity to Metabolic Hazards (or anything else) prevent a skeleton from going unconscious or getting stunned?

| SJ Games responds to requests for Pyramid archives Ben Finney 02:13:22 |
| | Howdy all,
Credit where it's due: SJ Games have, finally, responded to the complaints of those who weren't able to get the Pyramid archives in the short window available.
I have, presumably like all others who were Pyramid subscribers at the time the termination was announced, received a message from Steven Marsh via email: the archives are available now until 2009-02-16, at <URL:http://www.sjgames.com/pyramid/login/archives/zips/>.
That requires authentication, which worked for me with my account even though I requested a refund on my subscription.
What isn't made clear in the message is that the downloads now apparently include *all* the required files for reading the Pyramid archives, including article images, comics, etc.
I'm downloading them all now; hopefully this time the downloads will work properly for me.
Thanks, SJ Games, for giving access again and properly announcing it.

tobias heidelmann <tobias.heidelmann@cs.uni-dortmund.de> writes: hm, ok. so you prefer to wait "weeks or more" instead of registering, activating the account and logging in, which can be done easily in about 10 min? That's a false dichotomy. There would likely be a need to send a message to <errata@sjgames.com> *anyway*, regardless of whether I participated in the web forums. So it's not like I'm avoiding that by going through the web forum hoops. You also give the false impression that it's a single 10-minute cost. registering in fact should not even take a full 10 min. then looking up the site takes... a click on your bookmark? so about 1 second. followed by (if you want to contribute) a second click on the sign-in button. another second.
For this issue, the single message would likely begin a discussion, like here?
which would not be available to me unless I frequently go back to that one specific site and keep using that site-specific identity. you mean unless you click on the bookmark and (maybe) on the sign-in-button?
I
already have standard discussion-participation programs that work fine: my email and NNTP clients. They allow me to access disparate discussions from arbitrary numbers of different places, not just one site; i guess you also might have a browser, which allows you to use a lot of other sites where discussions are going on.
and they allow me to use an identity for any arbitrary number of
those discussions, not just one per site. you can use the same identity everywhere. unless of course your nickname is already taken. but that problem also exists here. And whats worse, here is no control of identity. Anybody could take yours. As has happened to some guy in a chess group i sometimes read. Very annoying.
Any discussion that doesn't take place by a standard message-level protocol such as SMTP or NNTP is too much long-term fussing around to be generally worthwhile. hm.. the spread of these forums on the net might prove you wrong here or at least show that lots of people disagree.
well, its your choice. i dont mind the forums. You sound as if a "site-specific identity" is something complex or complicated. It is just one or two clicks away. Bookmark the site, save settings for the sign-in form and it is all just two clicks away. And nothing prevents you from using the same identity. Unless another Ben Finney was there first. So, starting your newsreader or whatever program you use and look at new messages or starting your browser and clicking on a bookmark does not sound that different (in regard to complexity / time / effort) to me.
