| PC gaming the new era!? Nats 00:33:31 |
| | Yes but when you take into account all the consoles put together they should white wash the PC in terms of games produced. And the quality and variety of games on consoles is improving all the time. Im well expecting future games such as Elite 4 to only come out on consoles the way it is going.
But this could be a good thing. The sooner we get risd of the FPS and RTS gamers to the consoles the more chance PC gaming will become a niche market again and the sooner we get decent sims and strategy games again with great gameplay. Thats my view anyway. But I will probably never live to see the day.
Well I have my memories and can count myself fortunate that I lived through the golden era of PC gaming. I definitely consider the years from around 2000 onwards to be the worst time for PC gaming ever. Problem is I cant go back to old games. Even my all time favourite games like M1TP, Tornado and EF200 just look rubbish by todays standards. The truth is the way I now feel about graphical standards having been spoiled by todays games I have helped create this situation myself by buying games that concerntrate on the graphics. Its a vicious circle.
But I think Ive now played so many lousy sequels and replayed so many variations on a theme that I dont have to buy Civ 5 or Simcity Societies 2 or FIFA 08 or any of the other rubbish games likely to come out in the future. Ive realised I think, and its taken a while, that everything that comes out I have played before in a better incarnation in the past. Perhaps now I can start really getting into the few games that are great that I buy. And I can perhaps start being a lot more selsctive in what I buy from now on. Lately Ive looked in the gaming magazines and I dont see one game I want to get. Thats been the case for months. In the golden era I would want to buy 50% of the games that were reviewed. And a few years ago I would be suckered into buying yet another incarnation and regret it as soon as I got home. Not any more.
There are a couple of good games due shortly though - and some of the most promising sims, strategy games etc for many years on the horizon. Perhaps the PC market is dividing into the quality developers and the crud. Now if I can just filter out the crud....

Have you guys looked at Ace Combat 6 for the xbox 360? It has the kind of awesome graphics I've always dreamed about for a flight simulator. Yeah I know some hard core purists are probably going to say the mechanics of it aren't realistic enough, but the graphics just totally blow away any flight sim for the PC. I think that's pretty sad. I wonder if we'll ever get a flight sim with graphics that good for the PC. I just looked around for PC flight simulators and the selection and quality seem to be really poor. I do happen to have an xbox 360 so I guess I'll just get Ace Combat 6. Can you guys tell me what are the best flight sims for the PC? I'd like something with very good graphics and not a humongous amount of stuff to learn just to play. I have Apache Longbow Assault and I think it's pretty good.

| Lets have some sims Nats 05:16:18 |
| | Could really do with a new jet fighter sim around now. A good modern tank sim would also be appreciated. Or even a good space sim along the lines of Space Shuttle.
Where have all the sims gone? Its a gaming wasteland without them.

| | Hi,
I've just released a new Apache 3D cockpit for EECH. It features both the pilot's and co-pilot's station. It is fully integrated and included working instruments and animations like co-pilot (when seen from pilot's position), night vision sensor, throttles, wipers, rotor blades etc.
Here is a youtube video which shows the new cockpit in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_9Nnl55r08

| | I like the game, and now I can run it with all sliders full on. If you play instant action, you don't have to worry about the ground attack, which was dangerous, wasn't it? Oh, yes, I recommend the patch.

Remember hearing this opinion in a group or discussion somewhere--the opiner saying casually like everyone knew that CFS3 had a basic flaw that emerged over time and made it unplayable/a bad sim/coasterware. I know some did not like the emphasis on the ground war--"Aces Over Europe II" was the joke name--but it's not like the thing was "Nations: Fighter Command", is it? Anyway, MS is still selling it six years later, and the spec is now so low you can run it on a Palm.

| Upcoming Flight Sims? Cjm 08:06:08 |
| | Is it me, or does this genre seem a little neglected these days?
Apart from FSX, there don't seem to be any modern flight-sims, specifically combat flight-sims - I'm not an expert on the genre but I thought I would have heard about anything new on the market. I think the most recent games I've come across are the Falcon series and Lock-On.
When I started gaming in the early eighties, there were loads of flight-sims around. Pretty crude by todays standards, but often good fun. I used to love the career-based combat flight-sims like Gunship and F19 Stealth Fighter. OK, a bit light on the simulation in some respects, but very absorbing.
Is there any future in this genre? Are there any new (good) flight sims in the pipeline? Aren't we overdue an A-list title that uses our modern hardware a bit better? Or is this well and truly a niche market these days. Have we been shot down by the Wii generation?

Hi. Played CFS 3 on a Pentium III 500 for years w/ no problem. Missing to shoot down planes I bought the game again last week. Sometimes I play it for hours and everything seems OK but when it crashes, it CRASHES, resulting in a painfull restart for the system. (It tells me about a serious problem that WINDOWS has recovered from. Going through these crashes a few times a day started to worry me. I am concerned for the system. System: TOSHIBA Satellite A 105 Intel Centrino (plain) XP SP1 256 Mb Graphics card 1.5 GB RAM The game has the patch from the MCFS 3 website installed. Already dissappointed to find out that the ZONE MULTIPLAYER site was not supporting the game anymore! If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thanks. Serhan I run CFS3 fine so I suspect it is a hardware issue that you need to resolve. You know you need to run cfs3 config every time you change vid drivers, right? You have it patched and using the nocd crack?

| FS 2004 and SLI? W Spilman 20:49:09 |
| | I'm looking into getting a dual-videocard system, but I notice that MSFS 2004 is not listed as supported by Nvidia on their site. Since Nascar 2003 (supported) and FS 2004 are the only reasons I even own a graphics card, I wonder if I would see any worthwhile improvement in FS 2004.
Is anyone running FS 2004 on an SLI rig? If so, do you see any improvement, or any degradation of video quality? Thanks. WS

If I get FS X how is it likely to run on my machine at the LCD screen's res of 1280x1024? I want as much details as possible, but wonder if you really need a dual core for that. Win Xp Pro sp2, FX-57 CPU 2GB Ram New 8800GTS 512MB While not state of the art now, that spec was a decent spec when FSX was launched. You may not be able to run maxed without any slowdowns, but you will enjoy your experience. Without Vista, you obviously aren't going to experience DX10, but IMHO that is not a show-stopper.

| dual video card problems Whyte 02:54:13 |
| | I can't get MS Flight Sim 2004 to recognize my 2 video cards together. System specs: EVGA Nvidia 6600GT AGP Visiontek ATI 9200 PCI 4 monitors Asus K8V-X motherboard 1.5 gig ram Athlon 3000+ XP sp2
To get both cards to run without problems in Windows I had to have only one card in the motherboard during driver installation. But after both cards are working well together the game only sees the AGP card. If I remove the AGP card the game will run with the PCI card in windowed or fullscreen modes and I can see both monitors. Same thing with the AGP card. But not both cards together. I've tried the latest drivers from the ATI and Nvidia sites and the EVGA and Visiontek sites. I have got this to work in the past with earlier drivers but have lost those earlier drivers. Is there some setup file I have to modify in fs9?
Thanks Don

| | I have FSX+Accel. I am having a very hard time controlling helicopters in the game. Planes are no problem.
Whenever I am in full power the Bell Jet Ranger in this case pitches up and I start moving in reverse. If go to medium or low power I can fly somewhat level, but I will fall out of the sky.
Is there a fix for this. Mu joystick is a MS Sidewinder Pro and I calibrated it at least a dozen times.
TIA
