| We hit a bullet with a bullet... Star Wars works... Mitch___A 07:24:44 |
| | Yet more proof the Democrats are wrong about EVERYTHING and will continue this trend far into the future. Or at least until they destroy America completely...
This news was not entirely ignored. The New York Times/International Herald Tribune covered it. But it has gone largely unreported elsewhere.
When a senior military officer says that a key defense system is operative, newspapers should splash that on their front pages and television and radio should begin their broadcasts with the news.
It's as if the media don't believe the U.S. is worth protecting.
But some Americans do, and last week they held another successful test. On Friday, the kill vehicle from an interceptor launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California hit a target dummy warhead launched in Alaska that had been tracked by radar at Beale Air Force Base, outside of Sacramento, Calif., as well as sea-based X-band radar and an Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense ship. Multiple tracking is an important factor in neutralizing decoys.
The outcome was enough for Gen. Victor E. Renuart Jr., commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command U.S. Northern Command, to declare that the system is ready to be used at any time. With interceptor bases in Vandenberg or Ft. Greely, Alaska, the U.S. has formed a virtual shield that can protect the country from a limited missile attack launched from Asia.
"I'm fully confident that we have all of the pieces in place that, if the nation needed to, we could respond," the Air Force general said.
The media's weak coverage of this milestone should have been expected. They have long been an ally of the politically driven missile defense opponents who said the system was the foolish dream of a doddering old man. It will never work, they piously claimed. Can't hit a bullet with a bullet.
Yet the bullet has hit another bullet - six times out of the past nine tests since 2001. Air Force Lt. Gen. Henry A. Obering III, director of the Missile Defense Agency, has noted the system has not had a major problem in more than two years.
"I think this goes a long way to answering" the skeptics' questions, Oberling said.
The system is, of course, limited. But its development will advance - unless it's derailed by senseless politics - as all technologies advance. Already it is able to sift through other objects in the sky, select its intended target and then destroy it.
The system's next test is scheduled for some time in the first half of 2008. From that test, its ability to deal with airborne decoys will be assessed. Further tests, and the inevitable improvements, such as multiple kill vehicles deployed from a single interceptor, will continue as long as there is a will to complete the job.
While the political left here and abroad continues to be skeptical, sober leaders in Japan, Poland and the Czech Republic have expressed interest in a system that Democratic Sen. Ted Kennedy once derided as "Star Wars." At the same time, Russia has threatened to aim missiles at Europe if parts of the missile defense system are deployed on European soil.
Why so much fuss, we wonder, over a fanciful dream that can never be achieved?

| Libs that tell the truth??? Mitch___A 14:34:45 |
| | Nothing frightens those who peddle lies than the cold hard light of truth. They react to exposure of their deceits the way vampires react to a having a crucifix held up in front of them.
Ever since the birth of conservative talk radio and the Internet ended the liberals' total monopoly over the news, the left has been simmering with impotence -- over the loss of their absolute control over what the Americans are allowed to see and hear, and their inability to do anything about it.
Time and again liberal attempts to sell the nation their shoddy goods have been frustrated when talk-radio hosts have taken to the airwaves and warned their millions of listeners that they were about to be taken to the cleaners.
It was not until the administration's fatally flawed immigration reform bill that seemed destined for passage was derailed by army of angry voters recruited by talk radio hosts and conservative Internet Web sites that the left understood both the incredible power of the new media and their utter helplessness in the face of it.
Clearly something had do be done, they thought. So the left, led by the slimy Media Matters organization, began a counterattack using the liberals' favorite weapon - the lie.
An innocuous remark by Fox's Bill O'Reilly praising a famous Harlem restaurant was taken out of context by the liberal mainstream media which tried to ignite a firestorm, but the public wasn't buying.
Then, when Rush Limbaugh spoke about men falsely claiming to be veterans of the Iraq war such as one, Jesse MacBeth, who told a pack of lies about his non-existent service in Iraq and whose deception had already been exposed days earlier by ABC's Charlie Gibson and Brian Ross, the left jumped on Rush falsely claiming that his attack on such phony soldiers was an attack on all Iraq war vets who criticize the war.
As Fox's John Gibson said: "When MoveOn stepped on its own toes sliming Gen. Petraeus, [David] Brock of Media Matters swung into action looking for a conservative who would say something that could take the focus off MoveOn.
"Enter Rush Limbaugh and the 'phony soldier' discussion." As Gibson noted, Media Matters was so anxious to get the stink off MoveOn they made up the Rush controversy.
It was a patently obvious lie - few Americans have been more supportive of the U.S. military than Rush Limbaugh - and, shamefully, Democrats such as Sen. Harry Reid who had to know how false the charge was, quickly bought into it.
The whole incident shows just how desperate the liberals have become. Without the new media to keep an eye on them, their failure to accomplish their stated goals since winning control of the Congress would have been covered up by the subservient mainstream media.
Those of us in talk radio and the Internet are the left's worst nightmare - our monitoring of their activities had been shining the light of truth on their attempts to deceive the nation, and their current assault on the new media is failing as a result.
Like all Marxists, the liberals won't stop trying to lie their way into power. As a result, they won't stop trying to destroy the new media. First it was Bill O'Reilly, then it was Rush Limbaugh and who knows who'll be next - Laura Ingraham, Mike Savage?
You can be certain they'll find a new target, and just as certain that they'll keep pushing for a new "fairness doctrine" or some other way to silence the opposition. And you can be certain that whatever target they pick they'll be lying through their teeth when they attack.
They can't help themselves. The truth is not in them.

| | What happened to the FSX files that were available here??
I see a lot of people in trouble with various program issues and needing help or advice in one matter or another about one sim program or another, but I see very little flight programs or add-ons, sim files, textures.ect.
The sites i'm downloading from right now are:
Alt.binaries.warez.flightsim Alt.Games.Microsoft.flight-sim Comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.flight-sim
Is there now a new designated site for add-on files other than the one below

| OT:ATT ALL Nvidia Geforce 88xx Owners! Please test your cards for buzzing/sqealing with linked tools Jim 01:29:32 |
| | Hey all,
We've come across a problem with many Geforce 8800 and xx cards that seems to be a potential BIG problem for NVIDIA. It is being reported in many forums across the Net. So far NVIDIA nor any PSU maker has said any official statement. It seems to (maybe) be a problem with faulty transistors on many 88xx cards and combination of many PSU's on the market that cause the cards to squeal at shutdown (low power alarm some say). Other times the card will squeal during a reboot or motherboard reset. It depends on your Power Supply..maybe. Another problem and the most annoying one is the constant electronic buzzing sound caused by many, games. Oblivion and Company Of Heroes are big ones, as well as many benchmarks like 3D Mark, ATItool's 3D view and others. Some say the card is not getting enough power form the PSU. Others say it's a faulty card. Others say ALL 8800 cards are faulty.
Please test your cards with your games and this tool and listen for a loud buzzing sound from your card. It's a popular 3D tool don't worry, but it sets off the buzzing/squealing almost right away on many cards. Please test your cards and list your makes of video card and Power Supply. If your does it ask your vendor/manufacturer for support and see if we can nail down this problem. I think it may be widespread.
http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl/
I have a XFX Geforce 8800GTX with a OCZ GameXstream 700W PSU and the buzzing is there. But not at shutdown. With the same card and a Corsair HX620 PSU the buzzing is still there as well as a shrieking/squealing at shut down.
Here are links to other threads with the same problem. First links are the sounds itself. Mine is similar but different.
