| WC: Need help getting the SM expansions DocScorpio 06:48:12 |
| | All this fooling around with Privateer Remake and Privateer Gemini Gold reawakened an interest in Wing Commander.....so I thought I'd replay the original games.
Well, Kilrathi Saga doesn't really work all that well on XP and I wanted the original experience anyway so I got out my original DOS versions to play them via DosBox.
No problem with WC2 and its expansions because I'd backed them up on 3.5 diskettes.....which were still good after 15 years!
Unfortunately, for whatever reason, I can only find my original 5.25 diskettes for the first Wing Commander and Special Missions and Special Missions 2. Here's the rub: my last 5.25 drive died just as I was starting to transfer the data.
Fortunately, I had another copy of Wing Commander on an old Origin gamepack CD, so I was able to install that one. Unfortunately, I have no other copies of the two expansions. The local PC shop wants $99 to try to copy over the 2 megs of data from the Special Missions diskettes (using a 5.25 drive on one their pc's). If the diskettes turn out to be unreadable, too bad.
I've searched the web and, while you can download the original Wing Commander from several places, the DOS Special Missions and Special Missions 2 expansions are not to be found anywhere.
Does anyone know of a source for these two expansions? Any info will be greatly appreciated and will make an old gamer happy.

Thanks, The Spankstinator First: I must congratulate you on your fortitude. I refer of course to your e-mail address. I surely would have despaired after finding that "kahuna", "kahuna1", and "kahuna2" had been already been taken. But not you -- you persevered all the way up to "kahuna12". Bra-vo, I say. You aren't by chance on the Elite IV development team, are you?
Second: This froup is dead. Dead, dead, dead. It's even in the FAQ. If I could pry the FAQ out of Shingen's cold, mostly dead fingers I would quote you chapter and verse. Anyway, it's the last question in the FAQ. It says, "Is this froup dead?" Appropriately enough, no one has bothered to supply an answer.
Third: Never heard of Space Force - Rogue Universe until now. At the risk of starting an actual discussion, what do you know about it? Apparently it's a sequel -- did the first game show any promise? Most importantly, is the developer a narcissistic git worthy of inspiring a flamewar or two?
Thanks,

Howdy, I am serriously considering preordering the new qx6850 quad specifically to boost my fsx experience, there are a few reviews and comparision tests out there but not with fsx as the benchmark soft ware. So I am curious, is it worth going from my e6700 to the qx6850 ? would the 2 extra cores provide a significant standard of performance or would it be barely noticible ? note i have compatible motherboard and ddr2 mem. TIA Go to HardOCP Intel CPU forum and there is a lengthy discussion about which cpu is best to get. For my money I am going for E6850 as I don't care much about upcoming games, more interested in how existing games perform. Bang for buck in that scenario is E6850. Can FSX use 4 cores? Each core has to have seperate threads coded for it. I don't know if FSX has that capability.

| IL-2 1946 Questions Brh 12:45:15 |
| | I just bought "IL2 1946 - The Signature Collection" at Best Buy and wonder whether I'm missing something.
The only thing in the box were two DVD's. The box says that the "bonus" DVD contains 4 previous IL-2 games - Sturmovik; Forgotten Battles; Pacific Fighters and Ace Expansion Pack. Only Disc 1 installs any software. The second disk is a DVD with a bunch of JPGs and some video.
After instaling the software from Disc 1, the title screen shows the names of all 4 games mentioned above, but there's no way to select between them. The only documentation on eithe disc is for Pacific Fighters.
Should there really be 4 separate games, or have they all been combined into one large consolidated game? Should I have more than just 2 DVD's?
Thanks!

| OT-African tribalism and superstition not my fault.... Carl 10:40:17 |
| | Europeans can't be held responsible for all the woes in Africa. It'll be interesting to see what a state the continent gets into if this current trend of fanatical Muslim regimes spreads to more regions. All those countries were given independence, and thanks to corrupt governments, are worse off now than they were under colonial rule. They need to have unified governments, then things like national power and sewage and transport networks can be attempted. I agree that, to some extent, the western world owes no further allegiance or debt, nor a moral debt of conscience to ex-colonies. Zimbabwe is a smashing example of a once productive economy that's been destroyed by a corrupt regime. I do not think that countries such as the UK should send aid either, when our own country has massive problems. Fix your own country first, then look to help others.

"Larry Lindstrom" <nobody@aracnet.com> wrote in message news:i4mdnRTKtvNQNuPbnZ2dnUVZ_qvinZ2d@comcast.com...
Hi Folks: I have an old P3/600 with a Voodoo video card. I think it's a 5500 something or other, top of the line card when I got it years ago. But, as you know, 3DFX is long gone and the drivers are third party. They work OK. I lost a drive and need to re-install Win 2000 and a new version of Solaris, so perhaps this would be a good time to look at a newer video card. This isn't my gaming machine, but if someone comes over to the house, it might be nice to fire this up for some multi player. I would like to get a card that would make it the best gaming machine it can be, and I'm thinking some of the cards that shoulder the burden of Direct X and OpenGL could breath a little more life into the old dog. These have been out a few years, and I'm thinking yesterdays bleeding edge are probably affordable now. What would you recommend? Thanks Larry

| African tribalism and superstition not my fault.... Mitch__A 19:46:31 |
| | Irvine, CA--Two years ago the G-8 pledged $50 billion more in aid for Africa, but that promise, aid advocates charge, has been broken. They claim that several countries failed to ramp up aid, that last year donations from some countries actually declined--and that the world's richest countries must give far more.
Nations accused of giving too little say that they wrote-off millions in African debts, which they say should be counted as aid. And, perhaps to preempt criticism, President Bush last week announced plans to spend $30 billion to fight AIDS in Africa--doubling America's current commitment.
"But instead of disputing how aid is measured or guiltily promising billions more, the G-8 should repudiate the alleged moral duty to selflessly serve the world's poor," said Elan Journo, junior fellow at the Ayn Rand Institute.
"We have no moral duty to sacrifice for the poor. Those who earn their prosperity by production and trade have a moral right to every penny of their riches. The notion that the richest nations must serve the 'needy' is based on the vicious moral code of altruism.
"Altruism holds that one's highest moral duty is to selflessly serve others--and thus that the world's 'haves' must sacrifice for the sake of its 'have-nots.' The productive, on this abhorrent view, have no moral right to pursue their own interests and keep their wealth; their only justification for existing is to serve the needy. Thus the world's richest nations must atone for their prosperity by sacrificing for the sake of those who lack, or don't care to earn, values.
"Africa is poor because it is rife with bloody tribalism and superstition--ideas that in the Dark Ages kept the Western world as poor, if not poorer, than today's Africa. If aid advocates were genuinely concerned with helping Africans, they would campaign for political and economic freedom, for individualism, reason and capitalism, for the ideas necessary to achieve prosperity.
"Instead, advocates barrage wealthy nations with reproaches and accusations of stinginess. Such abuse is necessary to induce the unearned guilt which impels Western leaders to do penance by sacrificing billions more in aid. While posturing as humanitarians, aid advocates are unmoved by the financial burdens imposed on productive individuals in donor countries who are bled dry to pay for foreign aid.
"It is past time that we repudiated the perverse bandwagon for aid to Africa. We should reject the corrupt moral principle that demands self-sacrifice--and proudly assert our unconditional right to our lives and to our wealth."

The Senate Democrats UNANAMOUSLY voted against the bill that would require photo Identification to vote. This clearly shows exactly what the Corruptacrats are up to. They know they haven't any chance in any American election if they don't get this vote. Woman, minorities and now illegal's. The brain trust of America... Sheeeeesh....
Perhaps the 14% approval rating isn't low enough for tag team of Pelosi and Reid.
The American Revolution 2 is coming and Dhimmicrats and the morons that elected them had better be very worried.....

| FA18-OIF and logitech Force feedback Joystick Zephrane 11:37:23 |
| | hi,
I have problems with this game and this joystick assigning keys to the buttons. especially the main trigger of the stick produces a game pause (like the escape key), no way to assign the enter key (main shoot key). This joystick use to work fine in F18 Korea (OS 9 at that time). I've dowloaded the most recent patch of the program supposed to correct joystick problems.
