| motherboard identification utility? Guest 03:18:08 |
| | what programs (for Windows/MSDOS) will identify a BIOS and mainboard? I think Sandra does it, but I was looking for something smaller. I know AMI have a program for their motherboards, but I have Phoenix and Award on my PCs. I recall a program CTBIOS year ago; I don't know if it is updated now.

| IPMI Selftest Guest 18:49:47 |
| | Hi,
I need to develop a tool which can trigger the selftesting of all server components by sending IPMI commands to BMC. By using the tool "ipmitool", I came to know that only Chassis and BMC can be selftested.
Is it possible that components like fan can be selftested. If so, what are the components can be selftested as per IPMI specification.
Thanks in advance.

| CPU change, does it require software updates Richard 15:13:22 |
| | Hi,
I noticed that a few times since I changed the cpu, that I can't power down the computer, it hangs up (have to restart and shot down) (I suspect it is related to games programs).
When we install softwares on win 98. Are there applications building differently depending on the cpu detection? I run the Cygwin (unix on win). Is unix building aps depending on the cpu (p 2 vs p3 architecture).

| How important is the cpu heat sink grease Richard 15:02:13 |
| | Hi,
How important is the cpu/heat sink grease. When I replaced the cpu in socket 7, there was a bit of grease left on the heat sink. I looked for the specs of the heat sink and fan on the internet and found out it could handle up to 1.4 ghz cpus (mine is 400 mhz).
Do these AMD K-6 2/3 give signs if overheating?

| Post Code Error Sarge 01:26:46 |
| | Hey All, I just purchaced a non working GA-7N400 Pro 2 MB from ebay. I installed known working components after clearing the BIOS and removing the battery overnight and booted with a PCI Post Mortem card in the bottom PCI slot. It comes up with the error code of F5 which I have researched to mean "Clear Huge Segment". Any one know what this means and how to remeady it.

| Re: How can I tell if it's a k6 III at 400 mhz Richard 16:05:20 |
| | Thanks George,
The diag only specifies "AMD-K6(tm) 3D + Processor" at 400 Mhz. It is not explicit as to wether it is a k6-2 or a k6-3 (unless the + means it is a k6-3)
Any other suggestions?

| GigaRAID PATA IT8212 - doesn't find drive GA-8I945P Pro Kev 07:50:00 |
| | Hi All
Can anyone help me with this problem?
I have the MB board installed and am able to configure the BIOS.
I have a DVD drive connected as a slave to the RED PATA IDE channel 1 connector that works fine.
If I connect a Hard drive as Master to the RED PATA IDE connector it works fine (it is discovered and it boots).
However, if I connect the same hard drive, configured in the same way to either of the GREEN PATA connectors then the hard drive is not found.
I have tried numerous combinations of the Integrated Peripherals BIOS setup options including turning the SATA off, the GigaRaid off, the first PATA connector off, selecting RAID, non RAID modes etc, but none of these allow the BIOS to find or boot from a hard drive connected to either Green PATA connector.
The current relevant options, and my best guess for disabling all RAID and disabling the SATA ports is:
Onchip Primary PCI IDE : Enabled (The Red one) SATA RAID/ AHCI Mode: Disabled OnChip SATA mode: Disabled Onboard H/W GigaRAID: Enabled GigaRAID Function: ATA
Once I have this problem solved I wish to use 3 PATA drives, one DVD PATA drive and no SATA drives.
I have read both the Motherboard and the GigaRAID manuals but have not been able to solved the problem.
I believe I should see a "Press Ctrl-G to enter GigaRAID Setup" in the BIOS post, but I do not see this message.
Please help!
Motherboard GA-8I945P Pro, M/B Rev : 1.0, BIOS Ver : F10 CPU: Intel D 805 Memory: 2Gb DDR2 OCZ Power Supply : 400 W HD: IBM Deskstar

I just installed an AMD k6 3/400afr cpu on my socket 7. I changed the speed from 300 to 400 on sw1. How could I find out these specs running under Win 98.
Would the + in AMD-K6(tm) 3D + Processor, be the answer to the k6 III presense?

| GA-8IPE775G Rev 1.1 and Intel 651 CPU ????? BigVoice 21:05:49 |
| | Does anyone know as to whether GA-8IPE775G Rev 1.1 can support Intel's 65 nm CPU 651 (3.4G). In Gagabyte's website it said it doesn't for rev. 1.1 but OK for rev. 1.2 with F6 BIOS.
But ver.1.1 and 1.2 looks very alike and I wonder how true is the information. Both ver 1.1 and 1.2 motherboard BIOS have the same date and version. I have ver 1.1 board and would like to upgrade it to 3.4G 651 CPU. Anybody has any idea????

| | I have 2 WD2500JS Sata2 drives that I have jumpered down to 150 and still the bios won't detect either of the drives. I have tried the Sil and the nVidia controllers. Only help from gigabyte was telling me to install the driver. The problem is the BIOS shows none for the SATA drives. I have upgraded to F10 bios version.
Any ideas? I have turned on and off in every combination the sata controllers and the raid. I am not over clocking, AMD 64 3000+ with 512 (single stick) and the 2 drives.

I have verified the OS installed and run repair and have reinstalled the OS.
I have run W2K diagnostics and it tells me Windows 2000 could not start because the follwoing is missing or corrupt. <Windows 2000 root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe, however I have verified that file exists where it is supposed to be and that is is not corrupt.
The hard drive was previouly used for another OS, however it was wiped before re-use.
Any suggestions?

| Problem with my GA-8IK1100 motherboard and Raid O Javno 16:28:06 |
| | Yesterday I decided to reinstall Windows XP a fresh. My PC has Raid O configuration and thus I had to download a driver that I saved onto a floppy. This should have been activated in the blue Windows setup screen by pressing F6.
But it didn't. Instead it came up with the error "File txtsetup.oem caused an unexpected error (512) at line 1742 in d:\xpspl\base\setup\oemdisk.c."
So now I guess I can't reinstall Windows. What am I doing wrong? Has anyone had this happen to them before? Does anyone know how I can get it working? Am I doing it right?
Thank you for any help

| KN1 startup problem Rennie 19:58:08 |
| | Hi there, I just assembled my new KN1 system and nearly everything works fine. The only exception is the fact that when I shutdown the system by pressing the power button or using the option in WindowsXP I cannot restart the system again by just pressing the power button. All that happens is a short flash by the power LED and nothing more. This happens as often as I press the power button. The only solution to start the system again is to switch off the power supply, wait a moment, switch it back on an then press the power button again. When the system starts the BIOS posts that it is running in "safe mode" and that I have to check the CMOS. I am using a "be quiet, dark power pro 530W" power supply. Hope somebody can help! R

| 7VTXE+ doesn't detect new RAM Bc 16:25:14 |
| | I had one 184-pin 512 MB DDR PC2100 RAM module installed and now I want
to add another 512MB stick. When I add a second module of the same RAM
(184-pin 512 MB DDR PC2100 RAM ), the system just doesn't see it. It sees the original 512MBs, but it doesn't see the new RAM. I've tried different slots, I've swapped the 512 for two separate 256 sticks, I've tried different brands of RAM, but the system just won't detect the extra ram. I read the manual and checked various bios settings, but
I'm stumped as to why the system won't see the newly added RAM.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks, Brian

| Gigabyte 8IGX and 3.06 P4 HT Glenn Goodwin8 05:47:53 |
| | Hello,
I'm currently running a Gigabyte 8IGX motherboard with a Celeron 1.7G processor. I always had the intention of upgrading to a faster processor when I have more cash. I'm now looking at the P4-Northwood 3.06G (HT) processor which according to Gigabyte is supported (http://tw2005.giga-byte.com/Motherboard/Support/CPUSupportList/CPUSupportList_GA-8IGX.htm).
My question is does this motherboard really support this processor and does Hyperthreading acually work (assuming I have an OS that is HT aware) as there doesn't seem to be a BIOS update that would support hyperthreading as there is with some other gigabyte motherboards (http://tw2005.giga-byte.com/Motherboard/Support/BIOS/BIOS_GA-8IHXP%20(Rev%202.1).htm).
A previous post to this group seems to indicate that this motherboard doesn't support it, but maybe something has changed here (http://groups.google.com.au/group/alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.gigabyte/browse_frm/thread/abba80f0ab1c440d/09fe17beae8ea592?lnk=st&q=3.06+8IGX&rnum=1&hl=en#09fe17beae8ea592_

| zalman CNPS9500 and Gigabyte GA-k8n Ultra-9 : Are they compatible?? Guest 00:58:50 |
| | Well, I decided to get the Zalman CNP9500 since in theory it is quiter than the Gigabyte 3d Rocket I used on a previous system, but I'm baffled how to install it on the GA-K8N Ultra-9. From what I can tell, for AMD use, the Zalman CNP9500 uses two screws at the midpoint of two edge of the socket. However, in that location, Gigabyte has a plastic pin of sorts that holds the black plastic frame to the mobo. Do these pins come out?

| K8N Pro-SLI onboard audio noise Thany 00:56:51 |
| | Hi folks,
I have a K8N Pro-SLI with a stereo speakerset connected to the line-out of the onboard audio. This output always gives a certain degree of background noise, which is very clearly audible. When there's network traffic, the noise becomes louder than my PC. I also connected the front-audio with the appropriate connector of my Lian-Li PC-V1000 case.
When I plugin the headphones to front-audio, the noise on the speakers is gone, but now it's on the headphones. This indicates that the noise isn't produced in faulty wiring between the line-out and speakers. Funny thing is, when I disconnect the internal front-audio connector, the noise is gone, but so is all other audio output.
I also tried the line-in as the output (by checking "Rear Speakers connected to line-in" in volume controls) but again the same noise. This indicates once more the problem is somewhere inside...
Does anybody know what to do about this?

Martijn Saly

| GA-K8VM800M SATA boot drive not named C:\ Big A88 03:12:01 |
| | I have a GA-K8VM800M MB with a 64 bit 3000+ processor and when I installed the Sata drive( WD 250 Gig) as the boot drive I had problems until I moved the IDE drive that was IDE0 Primary Master to Slave. Then it acknowledged the SATA as the boot drive but named it as G:\ and the IDE slave as C:\. Strange as it may seem I'm not used to seeing the boot drive as anything but C:\. How do I get this changed back to the SATA as C:\? Oh yeah, in the BIOS I have the SATA as IDE and not Raid. Does this have anything to do with it? If I install another IDE ( or SATA ) drive can I install it as IDE0 Primary Master without causing a conflict? (Naturally the SATA drive would be SATA2 )
Thanks in advance

| Re: Need Help with NVRAID Setup on ECS KN1 Extreme Joemama 02:04:20 |
| | I had a similar issue. FINALLY got it resolved. I hope it works for you.
1. First thing you NEED to do is to make a floppy disk with the nvidia IDE RAID drivers from the CD that came with the motherboard. These are the only drivers that will work! You should be able to find them on the CD in the following folder: D:\raid\nvidia\floppyimage\winxp.
2. Go to BIOS , Make sure RAID is enabled and SATA 1 RAID and SATA 2 RAID is enabled too. By default SATA 1 and 2 are disable even you enable RAID option under RAID Config. IF you have more than two drives, enable the othe SATA channels as well. 3. GO to RAID BIOS useing F10 on the 2nd boot up screen , and setup Mirror or stripping.
Your RAID array should now be setup. You just need to get Windows going ...
4.Boot up with the Windows CD. 5. When the first setup blue screen appears, you should see it state "Press F6 for SCSI driver" or something like that. Anyway press F6 a few times firmly until it moves onto the next screen. It will ask for the drivers later. 5. When it asks you for the drivers, Hit "S" and copy RAID driver. You need copy BOTH Nvidia RAID Class driver AND Nvidia Nforce storage controller before Windows XP can detect your SATA RAID driver.
That should, hopefully, get you up and running into Windows. Use the motherboard driver CD to install the rest of the drivers.
You can get the latest drivers from the nVidia website AFTER you get WindowsXP loaded.
I hope this helped. Good Luck! -Marc

| Re: Can't install Windows, L4VXA2 Macrat 11:32:05 |
| | I wish I would have seen this when I researched motherboards I was buying on eBay.
I just got this a few months ago, and it's been giving me pain when I wanted to install Win98SE. I don't have any open valid licenses for the Windows XP CDs I got from a beta tester friend (he said the product key he had for was used up- can't be used any more due to the licensing restrictions)
So I am stuck installing a form of Linux on this unit. I'll try Lindows, a Linuyx variant with Windows emulation built in.
Ugh... I hope I have better luck with the Intel mobo.

| Not all RAM is seen Neil Barras 21:19:32 |
| | Hi all,
I have a Gigabyte GA-6WMM7 in a Packard Bell PC. It had 256MB of RAM in 2x128MB sticks. I upgraded as per advised by both Crucial, Kingston and a Colleague to 512, with 2x256MB Kingston PC133 Sticks, but only 128MB per stick is recognized. Am I missing something? The PC is running Windows 2003 Standard as it was intended (and still is) to use it as a Server.
Thanks,

| | Is there a known problem when using pide and sata hard disks in a system.
I had a problem in that windows xp is installed on drive c (piade) and data resides on drive d (sata). With sata connected the computer would take three or four attempts to boot (windows would load then restart once the desktop had appeared), and would also restart every 30 minutes or so, if I was lucky. I changed memory, power supplies, and chips, originally a 3700+ sna diago core, then a x2 3800+ dual manchester core, same problem with both chips. Out of desperation I disconected the sata draive and everything seems fine!
Any help would be appreciated.
