TECH: Shadow - Strange DMD behavior at times

Websteria 28 March 2005 05:24:13
 Hi all!

I just got my second pinball, a Shadow. Paid $1200+tax for it, although now
seeing how much work it's going to take it might have been a bit much, but
still...

The DMD seems to have some parts which flicker when a larger portion of it
is lit up. They do NOT flicker in the test mode during the single line
liteups...

Based on Marvin's I'm thinking this could be a problem with the filter Caps
on the DMD driver board. Just wondering if anyone's had an experience
similar.

In other news it looks like whoever had this before really tightened the
little lock nuts on the phurba divertors. Any ideas how to loosen those
suckers?

Have you tried pullling and reseating all cables/connectors on the display
and the dmd driver board?

Have you tried replacing the display with a known working display?

Have you tried the flickering display in another machine to see if the
problem moves with the display?

Sorry, never had a DMD issue with my Shadow although my game recently
decided to reset intermittently. I hate those problems, where to start?

I assume you mean the hex screws under the playfield that hold the
phurba posts? My were pretty darn tight to. I bought the longest hex
key I could find from sears that size and really slowly applied a lot of
force to get it to budge. The hex key bent considerably before the nut
finally moved. I wore eye protection in case that darn thing snapped.
I did not try WD-40 since it is such an awkward location, but that may
help.
