Re: EM tech: more Fast Draw questions Seymour-Shabow 14:58:54
 Ace 24 wrote:
I posted a reply 3 times on the thread about my FD kick out hole issue
earlier this week. But my posts don't show up. Sometimes I post
something on RGP at home and then it isn't on the board when I try to
read it at work. This time it doesn't show up at all. It's weird.
Anyway, thank you, Chris Hibler. The kick out holes now work right
every time.
Can I ask you about two other problems on the FD?
1) It's quite loud every time the drops reset- like when adding
players or anytime they reset. It sounds like a loud ZONK. My Mustang
is much much quieter. Do you think replacing the coil stops in the
drop target bank solenoids would help? Maybe this is like an
electrical buzzing noise but is very brief since the drop target bank
solenoids are fired just for an instant when they fire. Any other
ideas?
2) My FD will knock and score a replay for a match, but never for a
high score. The high score plugs are plugged in, in the lightbox.
The playfield special will only rarely knock, and then when it has, it
didn't score a replay. How should I fix this?

Yes, the resetting drop banks are a large ZONK type noise (it's doing 2
banks at once, and also at the same time resetting the feature bank
under the playfield - so 3 large coils all firing at the same time....
through the V relay IIRC)

Gott Lieb? answered #2 on one of your posts, looks like Google groups is
having issues again, but sounds like you have an issue on either your
10,000 reel and/or 1,000 reel for the player that does not get the
replay - the circuit board on that reel might need cleaning, and there
is a little contact on the reel shaft that might need to be cleaned. Be
careful if you bend that at all as the reel might become sluggish and
not advance properly.

Re: is this a system 9 board Frank-Rainer Grahl 13:05:10
It's the part # for the System 7 to 11A power supply. Grand Lizard does not have a
GI fuse. Check the cables. There should be 4 5A GI fuses on the right inside of
the backbox. If you want to put a new one in use 20A but if the 4 GI fuses are
present I would solder a wire to the holder or better replace it with a wire.

I've been playing (and loving!) my TSPP for the past few weeks, but
have a question. When you start a couch multiball, the dialogue goes
something like this:
Wiggum: "Open up, Simpson! You're under arrest!"
Homer: "For what?"
Wiggum: "(something) pinballs!"
What is it Wiggum is saying? Hoarding pinballs? Portly pinball?

The obvious:
If the pin is doing something damaging to itself, or is majorly jammed

The questions:
1) If a ball is stuck or something basic isn't working, do you:
a) leave it running until the owner comes by and sees it.
b) leave it running, but leave a note
c) turn it off and leave a note.
d) if there is a name and you know them, tell them.
The real question is:
e) if there is a name and number, call them. (do you call them each
time it does something? - how many owners appreciate that - how many
find that a pain?)
Other ideas/suggestions?

I saw an example of each of those at PPE today. I saw PostIts stuck to
playfield glass describing problems, advising the machine needed credits
or whatnot. There was a BOPP that had a broken right slingshot plastic
and it had turned itself over the outlanes, so I turned off the machine
and left a note so someone else wouldn't play it and chance breaking it
completely off. There were quite a few machines having issues today,
but the on-site pin repair guys were busting their butts getting them
back up and running. It was great!

Re: STTNG reset/power problem Joseph A. 'Tony' Dziedzic 06:28:50
Ed at Great Plains Electronics sells the replacement ribbon cables. FWIW, I
had an ST:TNG that had an incredibly annoying and hard to diagnose reset issue
that was finally resolved by replacing the ribbon cable between the power
driver board and the CPU. The contacts in the connector ends of the ribbon
cable had lost their tension, and weren't making good contact with the headers
on the two boards; that introduced *all* sorts of odd issues (including the
reset).

BR1 and 2 are 35 amp 200 volt bridge rectifiers.
C5 is a 15,000 µfd 25v capacitor.

So I was having a problem with my lost mine kickout. It was hitting
the crook between the lane guide and the flipper and arcing over to
the left outlane somewhere north of 7 times out of 10. Never did it
roll up the lane like I've seen on other people's machines.
I had tried adjusting the scoop to no avail. Someone here suggested I
use a weaker coil to fix the problem, and even was kind enough to send
me a 26-1200 to try. Now that popper normally takes a 23-800, and the
26-1200 was three steps down. I tried it in the game, and sure enough
it fixed the problem, but now the popper shot was very soft and less
challenging. It was trappable almost 100% of the time.
So I ordered up the two additional intermediate step coils and had a
swapping party. Of those two, the 25-1000 still provided 6 out of 10
controlled catches that dribbled up the right flipper inlane, while
the 24-900 provided just about the maximum unpredictability of any
coil I have tried. A few shoot up the inlane, sometimes coming out
the top, sometimes not, some still hit the crook and arc back to the
left to many different spots (occasionally even to the left outlane).
That's the coil that's in there right now.
So here's my real question to the group after a long windup. Should
the lost mine kickout be more of a controlled kick catchable more
times than not, or should it be more unpredictable. Certainly the
stronger coil will make the game harder and that's why I'm inclined
towards it, but I also think catching that kickout is something you
_should_ be able to do most of the time, since it happens so
frequently and is an essential skill to progress far in the game.
What do you think, keep the ball wild, or make it a bit tamer?
h_h

I have a good perspective on this as I have one at home and also one I
play regularly at league. My home machine is about 80%-100% up the
inlane then back down for the shot giving you 2 river letters per. This
is perfect for Whirlpool Challenge with either a ball cradled on the
left or just continuous inlane- no way out- biggfoot bluff- kickout-
inlane etc. Boring as hell but very lucrative. I once got the
whirlpool up to 83 million doing this. It also guarantees Class 6 River
which can be hard otherwise.

This would kill in a competition with good players.
The game at league however.........It is managable, sometimes. Other
times you have to just play it off the fly or bounce into a sling. Up
the inlane and down the outlane is very common if you catch it wrong.
Sometimes you can drop catch it. The kickout changes from night to
night.

For competitive situations I prefer the league game. It forces you to
be a better player and learn different methods to manage a ball. At
home I like it the way it is. Lucky that that is the way it worked out.

A friendly heads-up....

Your post appeared twice - (but that isn't important).

What *is* important is that eBay could very well end your auction!

You *cannot* offer a choice of items, especially if one of the items is more
expensive than the winning bid is for. Offering another item outside of the
actual bid ($2 more for your chrome version) is "fee avoidence" and eBay frowns
on that. It hurts collecting their fees based on the sold price. I'm afraid
you'll have to offer a separate auction for that one - or risk possible trouble.

At least, that is my interpretation of the rules. You'd pay fees based on the
$5 sale, but you could be collecting $2 more for the chrome and eBay would not
get their "cut" of that.

Be careful!

the fact, that the tourney takes in $1900 + the $15 to for the Expo
that your forced to pay in addition. I was expecting a lot more.
the word "food" was used pretty liberally. Yes it's better than
nothing (debateable), but for some, the offer of food, to justify the
overall cost, was a deciding factor, those were greatly disappointed
by the obvious cost cutting, which really put a focus on the money
making intent of tourney. Many of us figured it was going to be like

I tried searching for this in pinrepair.com and in the archives, no
luck. Basically, at certain angles my big hurt won't feed the ball
into the shooter lane. It tries, but nothing comes out. Has anyone
experienced this before? I angled it slightly higher or lower (I put

legs it used to work fine. I'm sure it's an easy fix, I was just

John, I haven't had to source any of these fasteners, but if you had
to do without an original, you could use a t-nut underneath and then
use a fastener from above. Might need to make a slightly larger hole
underneath to accommodate the t-nut.
Brian Bannon

No fair asking Classic Stern questions while I was at expo ;)

John you may have as many of the carriage bolts as you want (I should
have a couple dozen somewhere), as I always pull them when I rebuild the
playfields, I hate 'em. Using wood to hold the square part sucks - most
of yours are probably stripped out. You can tighten the tops only so
much and then it just slips.

I replace with the machine stud from bally machines and a tnut. I also
do that with a lot of wood screw studs, vs. the old toothpick in hole trick.
