| Re: Bally Solenoid Driver Test Board Popbumper1 20:47:23 |
| | Load wise, you are correct, this is why the factory Bally solenoid driver tester has a full complement of actual coils to energize. I suppose a resistive "simulation" would be adequate, but you are also talking about coils, which are inductive loads.

I don't know what or how you're designing this device, but please keep in mind to properly test a solenoid circuit, and a lamp circuit for that matter, you need to apply a load that's considered normal for the circuit. My first bench tester simply used LEDs with a current limiting resistor, which worked fine, or so I thought. I had a lamp driver once that did not work 100% in my machine, but tested perfect on my bench. I then realized that the SCR was working, but was weak and under a normal load would fail. I assume the same could happen w/ the driver transistors, so now my test bench has testers with the proper load applied to each circuit to help weed out those pesky so-so drivers.

| Re: TZ left flipper occassionally double flips Lloyd Olson 20:05:48 |
| | Crappy solder joint on coil, broken tiny wire coming off the coil to the lug. Just one coil I'd be thinking that and not flipper button opto problem which would effect both left flippers. If no problem at coil, then check the power and hold transistor on the fliptronics board for a break or bad solder joint. LTG

Occassionally the left flipper on my TZ will do a really quick double- flip where it flips fully open, releases about half an inch, then opens fully and holds. Ideas?

| High Speed - Flippers get weaker over time Matthew DeSantis 18:50:51 |
| | Hi,
I've been collecting vids for a long time, but this is my first post over here at r.g.pinball. I've had a Williams High Speed for quite some time and I've noticed that the flipper action gets weaker the longer the game is on. I replaced the flipper coils correctly about a year ago because one was dead, but I'm still seeing this problem. I'm guessing that it could be a power board issue and I'm sure some of you have seen this is the past. The game functions well otherwise. Any ideas?
TIA,
Matt

| Tech: HH Cellar Misbehaving Scj 16:32:54 |
| | Trying to finish up my HH restore and have run into a bit of trouble that I can't seem to figure out. When the ball is on the main or attic PFs all is well. However, when it drops into the cellar is when things go awry. First thing I notice is that the 5-bank reset coil partially energizes. Not so much that it actually contacts the coil stop, but it kinda hums. If you manually reset the bank and the plunger makes contact with the coil stop it's pretty well stuck there. I checked the corresponding transistors, Q14 on the driver board and the larger under PF transistor and the U45 was bad. So, I went ahead and changed them both. Got the same result when I powered the game up. I haven't gone back and checked the new Q14 though.
Additionally, when the ball is in the cellar the if you activate either of the lower PF kickers they fire once, but then power seems to be cut to them and the 5-bank reset coil, as it no longer hums. Finally, if I flip the right green button it actually activates the right attic flipper and kills the power to the lower PF. Also, the up kicker never seems to fire. I can activate the switch manually and the K relay activates, but the kicker coil doesn't do anything.
I can actually get all this to happen without entering the cellar. If I close the 877(gry/pur/pur)-044(blk/yel/yel) contacts at the U relay the same set of conditions described above occurs. I'm not sure if this problem is originating at the U relay as I think its functioning properly, but I could be wrong. I'd appreciate any troubleshooting tips anybody may have on this one. Thanks.

| | Looking for an early 70's Bally 100/1000 point bell assembly (Bell, bracket, coil, etc) for a Big Valley that I will be bringing to York for free play. The game was produced without the bell assembly attached. It is the German version so not sure if that was the reason.
I will be at the show starting on early Friday morning. Please let me know if you have one you can bring.

Is this a sign its going out or "outgassing"? I'm assuming so, just a small area (bottom corrner) just looks faded or less bright, for lack of a better way to describe it. Crossed my mind it might be a connection thing but I figure an entire row would just be out if that's the case. Thoughts?
