I heard about gog.com a few weeks ago and submitted my email to them. I haven't heard from them so earlier this week I went back to the site and did so again. Has anyone had any luck hearing from them? John I got my access key ok. I registered months ago though and I guess you missed the cut or something.

| Colonization review Itsbeen 03:46:20 |
| | I just got my PC Gamer in the mail for this month (I get it free as a replacement for CGW which they stopped publishing) and it contains a big reivew complete with an 84% rating for the new Civ 4: Colonization game. I thought this was pretty amazing since the game is not even due out until 9/22. Kind of shakes your faith in the review a little .

I've been reading about Spore, and wondered how these games get cracked. Is it easy to crack a game? I thought it might involve just sitting on the CD case until you 'cracked it', but I think it may be more technical than that. Extremely technical. You can't do it.

| keyboard not working well Marlock 20:32:11 |
| | Hi all!
I am relatively new in the computer gaming, and I have a curious problem.
I have noted that is some games space bar is used for shooting, and in some for jumping. Is the keyboard defect, and should I take it back to the shop where I bought the computer. They told me that the computer is working well.
Sorry if I am off topic, but I am getting slightly annoyed by this problem.
By all!!

| Saving the game in Spore Enone 23:40:21 |
| | I realise Spore isn't out until next week, but I thought I'd ask on the offchance anyone knows the answer to this. If not I'll post again next week.
I've just been reading the PC Gamer (UK) review of Spore, and my attitude towards the game has shifted from "not really interested" to "very tempted to buy this." A lot of what I've read really appeals to me, in a way that games like The Sims really really don't.
However one thing in particular has made me slightly cautious. Towards the end of the review, it says, "[...] the game crashed four times in my 50-odd hours of play, which I find entirely acceptable. What's completely unacceptable in that there's no autosave whatsoever, so every single time I lost over three hours of progress. [...]"
I'm not too worried about the crashing, annoying as that would no doubt be, but more about the implication regarding saving the game.
Is this simply saying that the game doesn't automatically save and that the reviewer forgot to save manually, or is it saying that there's no way to save at all in the middle of developing your creature?
The reason I ask is because I always find my gaming time in very limited availability, and there's no way I could play for anything like three hours in a single day. I'm more likely to get closer to 30 minutes. If there's no way to save the game after reasonably small amounts of time then I'll have to sadly leave the game on the shelf and play something else instead...
Thanks for any information on this that anyone can offer!

| A Lurker speaks. Carl 21:29:52 |
| | They why did you address my post? Because you are a lieing hypocrite. Look, if you think being a part of the mob mentality makes you feel like you belong there then so be it but just know that it is those who dare to go against the status quo who are usually right.
Could you kindly provide examples of those who went against the status quo, who were right? I think that that is an interesting point there, and should like very much to quote you in other discussions, but for this I require some examples. I eagerly await your reply. I'd also like to say that that is one hell of a long sentence without punctuation. Well done Maat!

| Free Games Rich 06:18:20 |
| | I've been spouting off on the AI for EDEE and how bad it is. It is a game you want to stay away from if you like to play solo and have fun. However, here are a couple of strategy/war games that I play and enjoy. They both are fun and challenging and have a decent ai. Best of all, they are FREE.
People's Tactics - This is a war game that is sort of a cross between Empire and Panzer General but more complex. Except for the art it is a one man show. There are scenarios or you can play random games.
Battle for Wesnoth - This is a wargame with a fantasy theme and just a bit of role playing. You can play scenarios, campaigns and random games.
Two very excellent games and did I mention they are FREE.

| CM Shock Force demo question Peter Knutsen 15:27:42 |
| | I've downloaded and installed the demo for Combat Mission Shock Force, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to use the 40mm grenade launcher that two[1] of my Stryker APCs have. They are supposed to be good for clearing out the enemy infantry in the trenches, but my Strykers never use them. I can complete the mission just using guns, but it goes slowly, and I will need to know it for later and less easy missions.
I have the manual, included with the demo in PDF format, of nearly 200 pages, but I haven't been able to find any explanation. A page reference would be welcome.
[1] The briefing claims that only one of my four Strykers, in the tutorial mission, has the 40mm, but actually two have it. This may be due to playing on the easiest of the three difficulty levels...

I'm playing Master of Orion 3 (runs OK under XP) and getting to the point in the game where the research really slows down. I remember from a few years ago that there was a 'tweak' to the game to speed it up a bit. snip Mike K Here is the site for the unofficial patches: http://bhruic.dyndns.org/patcher/
In my experience the research gets faster the farther along you get-as long as you are expanding that is. You just have to make plenty of research regions. Tweak the governor settings for planet development and watch that they don't make too many mining or bioharvest regions where the land is marginal.
Usually the core system planets are the most developed so they will be the best for manufacturing ships. Minimize research and mining regions on these planets once the secondary planets kick into gear.
A gas giant stuffed with research can really crank out the research mid to late game. The small planets don't really contribute much in comparison but every bit counts.

The Perfect strategy game, there are several ways to win MAKE PEACE AND SPREAD CULTURE and gain the worlds trust TAKE IT BY FORCE and eliminate your opponents WIN IT THROUGH WEALTH and build the worlds largest bank EXPAND IT WITH TECHNOLOGY and be super smart! Xbox and PS3 versions are Identical, and a DS version exists also, with few changes to the interface. A Wii version is to come, mimicking the other Console versions. This group is for PC Games only and not console weeny games. That's why it is called 'comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic'. Both 360 and PS3 have their own groups. Like I really want to play a dumbed down version of Civ4 anyway when I already have the real deal PC version.
